We all know that plants need water. But did you know that there are specific times of day when watering your flowers gives them the best chance of survival?
According to plant experts, many gardeners tend to water their plants too frequently, especially during the summer.
We often assume that our flowers need more water because of the hot and dry weather, but overwatering can actually cause problems. It prevents the plant from developing a strong root system and makes it dependent on surface water.
When it comes to the ideal time of day to water your plants, experts recommend that you avoid watering in the morning during the summer.

According to the Mirror, plant specialists at Phostrogen told The Express:
“A common mistake made by gardeners is watering too often, which discourages plants from developing their root systems and seeking moisture deeper in the soil. Instead, they become reliant on surface water.”
“It’s important to consider your soil’s texture and whether it’s compacted, as this affects its ability to retain water that reaches the roots. There are four main soil types, so start by identifying which one you have. If your soil is sandy, it should be watered more frequently and in smaller amounts, since it doesn’t hold water well. In contrast, clay soils can be watered less often but with larger quantities of water.”
Experts also point out that gardeners should water more regularly during hot spells – but only in the evening. Watering in direct sunlight can actually lead to “burning.”
“Of course, you’ll need to water more regularly in summer and during heatwaves. In spring and autumn, early morning watering is fine, but during summer it’s often best to wait until the evening, as watering in direct sunlight can cause damage to the plants,” they added.
Watering in the evening also reduces evaporation, meaning the plants receive the full benefit of the water you provide.
